EU Commission lawful access roadmap: digital forensics gap analysis and encryption technology roadmap both due 2026 under ProtectEU

The European Commission Roadmap on Access to Data for Law Enforcement sets specific 2026 milestones: a Commission-Europol gap and needs analysis for digital forensics tools and solutions; Europol developing as a centre of excellence for digital forensics operational expertise; and a Commission technology roadmap on encryption evaluating lawful access solutions. Lawful interception improvement measures are targeted for 2027. A specific call is made for coordinated EU-level standardisation for digital forensics, lawful disclosure and lawful interception, implementing the ProtectEU data access strategy.
