ENISA opened a consultation on 13 April 2026 on a draft candidate certification scheme for EU Digital Identity Wallets, with feedback invited until 30 April. The consultation is part of the EU’s build-out of assurance requirements around the EUDI Wallet ecosystem ahead of mandated deployment deadlines for all member states later in 2026. The certification scheme will define cybersecurity and identity assurance baselines covering authentication, trust services and wallet security. Digital identity wallets increasingly affect evidence integrity, authentication standards and regulated service access across public sector systems β including criminal justice, police data access and border control applications that are expected to adopt EUDI Wallet authentication from 2027 onwards.
